PRJCT MGR x Nora June – “Capitalize”
“Capitalize” hits with a raw honesty that comes from spending decades working a full-time job while keeping the creative spark alive in a basement studio. Listening to the track, you feel that real balance between daily responsibilities and the simple need to make art. It’s one of my favorites of the week.
The opening lines jump straight into how silly growing up and working in a big company can feel and the song takes you back to grade school, learning the alphabet and mixing paints in art class. It shows how adult jobs often ask for those same simple routines. Grown-up life can make people hide who they are, stay in safe spots, and keep quiet instead of sharing real thoughts.
The middle part shifts to talk about plain office walls and trying to hide mistakes. You hear a big contrast between following strict directions and holding on to your creative drive. Words about having no energy or life in the park show what job exhaustion feels like. Still, the repeated lines about finding a small light in the dark completely turn the mood around. It pushes past the hard parts of daily routines and finds real hope.
Working an adult job carries all the same doubts, wild moments, and big dreams as childhood, school, and falling in love for the first time. The true heart of this project comes from a dad getting a rare chance to write and record music with his talented daughter. You can hear that special bond in the way their voices blend. It feels completely real, made purely for fun rather than trying to impress anyone. The final repeated lines serve as a clear reminder to speak up, stay true to who you are, and never let a company define your value.
