Hamish – “Significant Others”
“Significant Others” is a warm and welcoming album from Hamish that feels like sitting down by a fire with old friends. Released on September 28th, this group of songs took almost fourteen years to finish, and all that time and patience makes the music feel truly special.
Made at home inside a small cabin in his garden with an old piano, good microphones, and an empty tin filled with rice, the songs have a lovely handmade feel that welcomes you right in. You can easily picture the fire burning outside where local friends and players gathered over the years to help make these tunes. A simple, free spirit flows through the whole project, led by clean acoustic guitar playing and clear, honest singing.
The first two tracks set a great mood, but every single track has its own little touch that makes it stand out. Hamish wrote a few of these songs for his children when they were born, like “Helpless” for Pip, “I’m Prepared To Wait” for Grace, and “Love All Around” for Noah. Those deep feelings give the whole album a strong heart. On another side, “Don’t Try And Break My Heart” has a fun beat that gets people up and moving, while “Santa Cruz” tells a neat story about traveling and falling in love. There is even a fun little musical touch at the end of “Funny One” that honors the classic composer Verdi! Hamish sings with a deeper, older voice that fits these folk songs perfectly and makes every line feel real.
This album is a great collection of tracks made with real care and honesty. You should take a little time to check out Hamish’s previous releases to hear more of his earlier songs. Make sure to follow Hamish to stay updated about new releases and live shows for the rest of this year!
