Mortal Prophets – “LOST IN SPACE”
John Beckmann’s project The Mortal Prophets released a 7-track EP named LOST IN SPACE, and I’m digging what they did here. Beckmann worked with Irish producer William Declan Lucey to create a retro-futurist take on classic synthpop.
The EP has that emotional core you’d find in early Depeche Mode and John Foxx-era Ultravox, but mixed with modern nocturnal sounds closer to Chromatics and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Beckmann talks about it being a transmission from another dimension, which actually makes sense when you listen to it. The seven tracks move between radiant pop hooks, drifting electronic ballads, and my favorite is “Tell Me”.
Beckmann in New York and Lucey in Ireland worked together on this, bringing noir-cinematic songwriting together with sleek electronic arrangements. Each track continues where the last one left off, building a sci-fi story that manages to be both intimate and expansive. If you’re a fan of genre-blurring electronic music with real emotional depth, give this a listen, and The Mortal Prophets have been putting out solid work across different projects, so definitely check out their earlier releases too. Follow The Mortal Prophets on Instagram and Spotify to keep up with new releases.
