Hallaballoo – “You Will Break”

Minneapolis rock collective Hallaballoo put out a single titled “You Will Break” and it’s my favorite of the week. Instead of aiming for big volume, the band uses restraint to build a dark, tense atmosphere that feels completely authentic.

The song focuses on the vulnerability of falling in love, running away from it, and realizing too late that the connection is gone. Kylie Krick provides the lead vocals, and her delivery is soft and intimate, sounding like a private diary entry rather than a dramatic performance, and she handles the emotional collapse in the lyrics with a gentle weight that makes the track land beautifully.

The instrumentation stays out of her way while adding incredible depth. Andre Rodriguez plays keys that drift smoothly through the background, and drummer Kyle Primus keeps his parts minimal, providing a simple anchor that gives the song structure without crowding the space. James Gross handles the guitars, and the track opens up during a massive guitar solo right in the middle. It serves as the main turning point where the built-up tension finally snaps. James spent years reworking this track, and deciding to shape the entire progression around that middle solo paid off.

It is a slow-burning piece of music that reveals more of its production layers if you listen with headphones. Head over to social media to follow Hallaballoo so you can stay updated on their new releases this year.
