Wotts – “he spoke with conviction”

Wotts released their new single “he spoke with conviction” and I’m really digging it. The Ottawa duo of Jayem and Ricky 100 are going back to their psychedelic pop sound here, and it works well for them. If you’re into bands like Tame Impala and Pond, you’ll probably enjoy this. The song has that floaty, hazy vibe where everything sounds a bit dreamlike. Jayem handled the production and you can tell he spent time getting the textures right. He used analog gear and vintage drums to give it that warm, nostalgic feel without making it sound dated.

The song is about the lies we tell ourselves just to get through things, which honestly hits close to home for a lot of people. It’s the second single from their upcoming EP COPE, where each song looks at how people deal with tough situations. Their last EP FLANK! was about loss, so this new one picks up after that and explores how you try to keep going when life gets messy.

These guys have played some big festivals in Canada like RBC Bluesfest and Canadian Music Week, so they’ve been building a solid reputation. If you haven’t heard their other stuff yet, go back and give it a listen. Also, follow Wotts on social media because they’ve got a music video for this song coming on November 28th and the full EP early next year.
