Water Street – “Closer”

Water Street from Blairstown, New Jersey, consists of Julia Aiello, Eddie Woodcock, Dave Paulson, Connor Konecnik, Alex Kerssen, and Brendon Gardner. They collaborated with the Philadelphia indie label Free Dive Collective on this release, and it seems like they had a clear vision for what they wanted to make.

“Closer” has a mix of energy and warmth that’s easy to get into right away. The electric guitars have a bluesy edge, the horn section adds a lot of life, and Julia’s vocals bring everything together. The band took inspiration from Lake Street Dive, Couch, and Lawrence, but it still feels true to their own style.

The song is about connection and that feeling when you meet someone and decide to let go of hesitation. It fits the upbeat, hopeful mood perfectly. Since this is the first single from their next album, it feels like the band is setting a clear direction for what’s coming next.

After a busy summer playing Maplewoodstock and opening for Couch, Water Street seems ready for more big moments. Follow Water Street on social media to stay updated on new music later this year.
