The Confederation – “Hypergravity”

The Confederation’s Hypergravity is an ambitious album that takes on some heavy ideas without getting too complicated. It’s written as a Gothic Opera with a full story behind it, following two characters, Lena and Norm, as they try to figure out who they are in a world where it’s hard to tell what’s real anymore. The songs are part of a bigger live show, and you can tell the whole thing was built with that in mind. And my favorite track of the album is “Upload Me”.

There’s a clear focus on live instruments like guitar, bass, piano, keyboard, and drums, which gives the album a raw feel even with the digital touches layered in. The vocals are especially different, since the parts were recorded by different singers and then shaped into the voices of Lena and Norm using modeling software. It sounds like a strange idea at first, but it works once you get into it. Tracks like “Who Invented Mondays?” and “Seeds In Winter” hit with emotion, especially once you follow the storyline.

The band is also working on a set of music videos tied to the stage version. Follow The Confederation on social media to stay updated in the new year.
