Powers of the Monk – “Sleepy Fields”
Powers of the Monk just put out their new single “Sleepy Fields” and it’s a really beautiful track. The Michigan-based duo of David s. Monk and CasSondra “Pontiac” Powers got back together in 2020, and they’ve nailed this dreamy, peaceful sound.
The song takes you to this in-between place where you’re hovering between being awake and drifting off. They paint this picture where your breathing gets easier, your heartbeat syncs up with poppies swaying in a field, and sleep becomes this welcoming thing rather than just checking out from life.
David takes care of vocals, guitars, and keyboards while CasSondra handles vocals, violin, bass, and keyboards too. John O’Reilly Jr. sits in on drums for this one. They produced it themselves in Detroit, had Bryan Cook mix it out in Los Angeles, and Brian Calhoun mastered it down in Nashville. All those different hands on deck helped shape the final sound.
If “Sleepy Fields” is your thing, go back and listen to what else they’ve put out since they started up again. And yeah, follow Powers of the Monk on social media so you don’t miss whatever they release next.
