Dee Armstrong- “DEICHTINE’S DAUGHTER”

After decades of turning heads with Kíla, Dee Armstrong finally steps into the spotlight with her debut solo album “DEICHTINE’S DAUGHTER”, and it’s impressive.

Dee Armstrong’s fiddle playing is magical – no surprise there for anyone who’s followed her work. But what really knocked me out is how she weaves together all these traditional elements with modern touches. The whole album has this incredible warmth to it, probably because it was recorded right in her home in County Leitrim.

The title track, inspired by Louis De Paor’s poem imagining Cú Chulainn’s sister, sets the tone for an album that celebrates feminine strength in a way that feels both ancient and totally relevant today. When her sons Diarmuid and Lughaidh join in on banjo and electric guitar, you can literally hear generations of Irish musical tradition flowing together. The traditional arrangements of “Yon Do” and “Frailach” show off Armstrong’s deep understanding of Irish music while giving these old tunes fresh energy.

After contributing to award-winning soundtracks like “Song of the Sea” and “Wolfwalkers”, it’s incredible to hear Armstrong’s full artistic vision unleashed. Her multi-instrumental talents shine throughout, whether she’s playing viola, banjo, hammered dulcimer, or adding vocals to the mix.

Make sure to follow Dee Armstrong on social media to catch her upcoming Irish tour dates, this is music that’ll sound even more amazing live.
