Blackbird Rebellion – “Expedient Means”

After 15 years in the game, these Hamburg veterans know exactly what they’re doing. The five-piece band doesn’t follow trends; they just make solid rock music that draws from grunge, alt-rock, and indie without sounding dated. This is not the first time they have released an EP; you should definitely check the band’s previous releases here.

The thing that stands out on this fifth EP is how the band allows these songs to breathe. The distortion is broken by unexpected moments of pop sensibility, and the arrangements feel thoughtful and precise. If I have to pick just one favorite track that would be hard, but the ones that stick in my head are “Phobophobia” and “Backfire”.
