Audren – “Think Freedom”
Audren is a French indie pop artist who has been making music for a while, took a long break due to illness, and is now fully active again. Her new album Think Freedom has eleven tracks and pulls from a lot of different places, pop, jazz, neo soul, folk, funk, without feeling scattered. Her life partner Chris Rime produced and arranged it, and their two daughters Sydney and Jemily Rime also contributed. It’s a real family project.
The album has range. A New Page opens things with acoustic warmth and orchestral touches. The Good Road brings in a gospel choir that gives it this wide, hopeful energy. We Want Funkey and Si Tu Veux Monsieur are pure get-up-and-move tracks and Flowers In The Snow is my favorite. Audren’s voice is something you notice right away. Warm, a wide range, and she never seems to be showing off. She sings like she’s talking to you, not performing at you.
The whole album has this undercurrent of wanting people to slow down, think for themselves, and connect with each other. It doesn’t beat you over the head with it. It just sits in the music.
If you haven’t heard of Audren before, now’s a good time to find her. Follow her on social media so you don’t miss what she puts out next.
