Whiskey General – “Mooreish”
Whiskey General’s new album Mooreish feels like a band doing exactly what they want to do. It’s written and produced by Jay Serrao, and you can tell it’s coming from real experience, not a need to impress, and the sound sticks close to classic British rock, but it doesn’t feel stuck in the past. It’s confident without trying too hard.
The opener “The Beast” comes in loud and unfiltered. From there, the record keeps moving with purpose. “Love Like a River” stands out with its message and the addition of the Zamar Gospel Choir. It hits in a different way without being too dramatic. “Lions” brings in a bold brass section and has the kind of momentum you could picture at a game or rally. “Wildfire” and “Wind Up Toy Car” slow things down a bit. That lead guitar solo from Jack Evans lands right in the middle of the album and sticks with you. “Shotgun” already picked up a lot of views online. It’s sharp and straight to the point. And the last track, “Truth and Lies”, ends things cleanly without dragging it out.
