Ratfink! – “WHEN U WERE MINE”

Ratfink just put out WHEN U WERE MINE, and this album is the kind of scrappy project that reminds you why DIY music can be so fun. The whole thing was recorded with a fifty dollar mic, a hundred dollar guitar, and a laptop that got beer spilled on it at some point. Ratfink seems to think the beer incident added character to the sound, and you know what, maybe he’s onto something.

The album comes after the singles ‘About Ya’, ‘Gay Song’, and ‘Plastic Bits’, so if you caught any of those, you already know the vibe. This is loose, rough around the edges in the best way, and has that rock n roll energy that doesn’t apologize for being a little messy. His partner Liv shows up on the recording too, apparently at weird hours, bringing some sweetness that balances out the rawness. Ratfink’s music deserves your full attention. The beer-soaked laptop, the cheap gear, Liv rolling in at odd times, it all adds up to an album that captures the chaos and charm of making music without overthinking it.

If you haven’t checked out Ratfink’s other releases yet, go dig into those. Follow him on social media to catch whatever he does next.
