The Sven Curth (huge) Trio – “Live at your local Waterhole”

Good Thursday afternoon! Sven Curth’s new album “Live at your local Waterhole” brings a different chapter in his catalog. This is his fifth album release, and for the first time he presents his music in a live setting with a band. Curth is a singer and songwriter who also plays guitar and banjo, and he clearly takes both writing and musicianship seriously. For this performance, he teamed up with drummer Kyle Murray and bassist Colin Dehond, forming The Sven Curth Trio, while keyboard player Chris Carballeira joined the group for the show that became this recording.

The album captures one of their performances at The Waterhole in Saranac Lake, New York, a venue with a long history of hosting live music. That atmosphere gives the record a natural sense of connection between the band and the audience.

The set moves across several styles, which reflects Curth’s wide range of influences. The opening track “How Come” begins with a stripped-down Americana singer songwriter approach. Later, “Rain” steps into blues territory, while “My baby hates me when she’s drinking” brings quick swing picking and a bit of humor. Another highlight is “Wonder What”, where the group stretches out with a longer improvisation that lets the players interact freely.
