The Shrubs – “Fall Behind”

The group is made up of brothers Josh and Miguel, along with Sophie, who used to be Miguel’s coworker. They’ve been together since 2019 when they signed with Blossom Records, and this track feels like a milestone for them.

“Fall Behind” actually has a long history, Miguel first wrote it back in 2019, but the band spent years refining it until it felt right. You can tell they really put thought into shaping it, because the final version has this great mix of energy and mood. At the same time, the lyrics touch on the harder side of breakups, so there’s a balance of brightness and edge that keeps it interesting.

Another cool detail is how they recorded it, everything was tracked in their home studio, Flowers on the Wall, in Katy, Texas. They used old analog gear, even bouncing guitars through reel-to-reel and cassette setups, which adds this slightly unstable, vintage charm. It’s the kind of choice that makes you appreciate how hands-on they are with their sound.

If you dig “Fall Behind,” make sure to check out their earlier work too, since it shows a different side of them. And don’t forget to follow The Shrubs on social media to stay in the loop for whatever they do next.
