The New Citizen Kane – “metalLIC”
The New Citizen Kane put out an incredible new track on July 3rd, and it has been playing on loop here for days. The song is “metalLIC”, and it is the opening chapter for a massive four-part project named “PSYCHEDELIKA Pt.2”. Specifically, it leads directly into the first EP, “FREE TO FEEL”, which hits digital platforms on August 14th. If you prefer physical media, the full CD and vinyl versions are landing on that same day in August, so you can hear the whole project early.
Hearing this song is like walking under neon lights right after a heavy rain. It has an incredible late-night electronic pop energy that makes you want to move, but it is also deeply personal. The artist spent over a decade using this project as a character or a mask, taking inspiration from the iconic movie that inspired his name. After some time away from music, he changed direction completely. He stopped hiding behind a myth and turned the music into a mirror. You can really hear that honesty here. The track is about surrendering control, trusting your instincts, and just letting yourself be present. It came out during Pride season, and that message of liberation and freedom is right at the center of the track.
Other songs on the upcoming EP like “Dream Logic”, “What’s Real?”, “Ugly Alligator”, and “Into My Heart” promise to expand on this world, but “metalLIC” is perfectly capable of holding your attention on its own. It is a beautiful, smooth blend of emotional openness and dancefloor energy.
“metalLIC” is honest, vulnerable, and completely captivating. If you are new to his music, you should definitely check out his previous releases to see how his sound has evolved over the years. You will appreciate the current direction even more.
