The Music Of Sound – “Paradigm”
The Music Of Sound is a UK trio made up of vocalist Sherin, flautist Elena Trent, and composer Neil March. They have a sound that people genuinely struggle to pin down, comparisons to Saint Etienne, Chromatics, and Chvrches get thrown around, but none of them quite stick. That’s actually one of the more interesting things about the band.
“Paradigm” is their most Cocteau Twins-influenced release to date, and if you know the band’s catalog even a little, that’s saying something. The track tackles the noise and disorder of the current political climate, not in an obvious or heavy-handed way, but more like a slow burn observation on it. It’s the kind of subject matter that could easily tip into exhausting territory in the wrong hands. I just love how Sherin’s voice carries it all, and Neil’s production gives the track room to breathe, which suits both the mood and the message. Elena’s flute adds a layer that keeps things feeling alive and makes you interested.
The band is at a point right now where everything seems to be clicking. “Cold Weather Man” has already cleared 57,000 streams and is still growing. “Paradigm” is out on Monochrome Motif Records and is worth your time. Give The Music Of Sound a follow on social media to keep up with whatever they do next this year.
