Tamar Berk – “indiesleaze 2005”
Tamar Berk’s new single “Indiesleaze 2005” takes you straight back to the mid-2000s indie-rock scene. This track comes from her recent album OCD, and it captures that whole chaotic energy of the MySpace era when everyone was in multiple bands and nobody knew where life was headed.
The song is autobiographical. Tamar wrote it while living in Chicago, reflecting on a time when she and her friends were constantly starting new bands and playing every show they could book. You can hear that restless creative energy and it’s about being young and hungry, believing music could change everything, even as reality started creeping in with bills and responsibilities.
Tamar doesn’t overdo the nostalgia here. She captures the hope and recklessness, but also the messiness and uncertainty of that time. The title pulls from that specific moment when DIY scenes were everywhere and thrift-store gear was all you needed to make noise. She mentions people around her thinking about families and money while everyone was still taking their last big swing at the music dream.
