Reetoxa – “Soliloquy”

“Soliloquy” by Reetoxa is an album where you can hear the history. It’s a full double album, and it really does ask for your time. I ended up putting it on late at night with headphones, and that felt like the right call.

There’s a full band behind it, plus piano and backing vocals, and nothing sounds thrown together. It has that slightly rough edge in places that makes it feel real. Jason McKee sits right at the center of it all, and you get the sense he’s been carrying these songs around for a while.

The bigger moments stood out to me, especially the tracks with the Budapest orchestra. They don’t show up just for effect. They actually lift certain songs and give them space to breathe. Then it swings back to quieter sections that feel more direct, almost like someone thinking out loud. My favorite tracks of the album are “DEMAND PERFECTION”, “STARE AT THE SEA”, and “YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN ME”. You can tell some of these ideas go back years, while others came later, and that mix gives the album its character. It’s a lot to take in, but I liked that it didn’t try to simplify itself.

I came away liking it more than I expected. It’s worth spending time with, and I’d also suggest going back to Reetoxa’s earlier work to see how this fits in. Follow them and stay tuned for whatever comes next. Would you sit down and give a double album this much attention?
