Pisgah – “Favor”

Hope you’re having a great Monday morning! Pisgah has a new single out titled “Favor”, and I’ve been spending time with it lately. Pisgah is the project of Brittney Jenkins, a Southern-born musician who’s been based in Greater London for about a decade. This is her second single leading up to her debut album “Faultlines”, which will be released in November, and it’s one that feels both raw and relatable.
“Favor” digs into the struggle of trying to live up to someone else’s impossible expectations. Pisgah uses big, destructive images, like a plane crash and a nuclear meltdown, to tell the story of a relationship falling apart under that kind of pressure. The music itself has a grungy 90s-inspired edge, with driving guitars and steady drums, and it comes across almost euphoric even while dealing with such heavy subject matter. That contrast makes the song hit in a strong way.
I appreciated how direct and personal Pisgah was in explaining where the song came from. She wrote it during a rough time when she felt herself getting lost in someone else’s expectations, and that honesty really comes through. It’s the kind of story a lot of people can connect with.
If you haven’t heard Pisgah’s earlier work, give it a listen too, because “Favor” continues building her sound in a clear direction. Make sure to follow her on social media to keep up with what’s coming next.
