Paulo and the Problems – “Stupid Sexy Paulo”

“Stupid Sexy Paulo” is exactly what summer needed, it’s smooth, unpredictable, and full of character. Paulo and the Problems know how to have fun without letting the music lose its edge, and this album proves it. From the jump, the tracks are thick with a funky backbone and sharp enough to keep you from zoning out. It leans into old-school R\&B and hip-hop roots without getting stuck in them, and the features, Saynave, Mekfly, Dude Low, Allie Crisp, and Elise Chantelle.

The vocals across the album are charismatic and laid-back in all the right ways, locking in with the grooves without trying to overpower them. Everyone sounds like they’re exactly where they’re supposed to be. It’s got that classic Fogwood vibe, collaborative but still cohesive, soulful without taking itself too seriously. “Cruise Control” and “After Party” are my favorite, and you don’t need a tour to feel like you’re part of the release, it feels like hanging out with a really talented group of friends who somehow made a full album in between inside jokes.

Make sure you’re following Paulo and the Problems online to catch the rest of their moves this year. You’ll want to be there when they inevitably drop more weird, brilliant stuff.
