Near Death Experience (NDX) – “Flight”
Near Death Experience, the London-based Anglo-Brazilian band known as NDX, have put out a single that grabs you from the first few seconds and honestly doesn’t let go. “Flight” is a funky, soulful ride that blends soul, funk, and a touch of psychedelia in a way that feels totally natural and unforced.
The song opens with a rich harmony between vocalist Ian Whiteling and keyboard player Jami Nunes, and that combination is immediately warm and inviting. Before you know it, the track drops into a groove-heavy verse where guitarist Guilherme Dessuy’s wah-wah playing and Amar Grover’s bass line lock together really nicely. It’s the kind of rhythm section that makes you want to move without even thinking about it.
Jack Dawkins on saxophone is a real highlight here. His playing adds a jazzy, loose energy that lifts the whole track and keeps things interesting. Drummer Joshua Van Ness holds everything together with a solid, driving beat, especially during the instrumental bridge where the sax and guitar really open up and play off each other. That section is genuinely one of the most exciting moments on the track. The song builds, breathes, and pulls you along in a way that feels emotionally engaging without being overly dramatic. It’s upbeat but also carries a kind of bittersweet feeling underneath the groove.
This is a really strong single and a great sign of where NDX are heading. Do yourself a favour and dig into their back catalogue too. Give them a follow wherever you listen to music.
