mullein – “I Don’t Wanna Go”
Nashville supergroup mullein came together a few years ago backing Zie Sincerely, and they have grown into a flourishing community. They are a massive seven-piece band featuring members from other local projects like No Diving, Soul Surgery, and Cavehole. Their debut single “I Don’t Wanna Go” showcases their signature blend of neo-soul, jazz-funk, and soothe-core.
The track explores that familiar bittersweet feeling of having to step forward from a moment you really want to keep holding onto. Rather than letting that weight drag things down, the group turns the emotion into a playful groove. Individual chops get plenty of room to shine here, highlighting their strong musicianship while staying completely locked into a unified sound. The entire track relies on a heart-forward, transparent approach to making art. That genuine vulnerability comes through right away, drawing you straight into their surreal sonic world. By the time the catchy hook rolls around with “I don’t have to take you with me, I don’t wanna go,” you will find yourself singing along and moving to the rhythm.
It is clear this group has a long-term vision for growing together and building a balanced relationship with their craft. Give “I Don’t Wanna Go” a listen on your favorite streaming platform.
