Mogipbob – “Anything but Me”

Looking at the album cover art, you see a rusty old garage under a glowing orange sunset sky with a pickup truck parked by the pump and a quiet dog waiting patiently while a lonely desert highway stretches into the distance. That warm, dusty rural view perfectly matches the sixteen songs on the brand new record, “Anything but Me”. This collection of tunes pulls you right into a welcoming world of quirky stories and honest human moments without ever feeling forced or pretentious. Every single melody feels right at home in this rugged setting, creating a great atmosphere from the very first note to the final chord.

Every track brings its own distinct mood to the front porch. One minute you hear upbeat country guitars and bluesy grooves, and the next you find quiet acoustic reflections on growing older and noticing small details of daily life. The songwriting is packed with dry humor, strange characters, and wild ideas that work together naturally. The artist mixes folk melodies, lively funk rhythms, and western storytelling into a sprawling journey across rural northern Alberta. You can hear how much care went into shaping every single performance across the entire project, giving each tune room to breathe and grow over time.

These two are my favorites, “Hell’s Bell Bottoms” brings an infectious, playful energy that is impossible to shake off, telling weird tales with a massive grin. On the other hand, “Sunday Drive” hits with a wonderful, slow-rolling comfort that makes you want to roll down the windows and watch the wide horizon drift pas. Other highlights like “The Fleas of Hercules” and “Umpire Vampire” dive into absurd storytelling, while “It’s the Little Things That Matter Most” and “Some Things Never Change” slow everything down to look closely at memory and identity. It’s one of the best albums I’ve discovered this month so far.

If you enjoy this fantastic batch of songs, you should definitely check out the artist’s previous releases to hear how this unique songwriting style fully developed over time. Make sure to follow Mogipbob to stay updated about new releases for the rest of this year and see what happens next in the recording studio.
