Michael Goldberg – “Dorian’s Dance” (Midnight Metal Remix)

Michael Goldberg’s new single, “Dorian’s Dance (Midnight Metal Remix)”, shows how much fun he has with mixing styles that don’t usually meet. At its core, the track is built on a Dorian-mode hook, and you can really hear that classical influence when it opens with Goldberg’s piano part. But once the baritone-tuned guitars and double-kick drums come in, it shifts into something heavier without losing that melodic base.

What I like is how the track keeps moving in unexpected ways, the rhythm doesn’t just sit in one groove, it switches between 4/4 and 7/8, which keeps it from feeling predictable. Violinist Peter Voronov adds another layer on top, and that string line cuts right through the dense guitars. On the low end, Rich Gray and Fabio Alessandrini hold everything down tightly, which gives the whole piece a strong backbone even as it jumps between sections. To be honest, it’s one of the best tracks I’ve heard this week so far.

When you start enjoying the track, it feels like the song has gone full cinematic without losing its bite. It’s easy to imagine this fitting into gothic-metal, progressive, or even dark workout playlists. Definitely worth keeping an eye on Michael Goldberg.
