Four collaborations in and Lois Powell and Night Wolf are clearly onto something that works really well. “The Laws Of Life” is the kind of track that pulls you in quietly and then sticks around long after it’s finished playing.

The production has this dreamy, floaty quality to it that feels genuinely calming. Pizzicato strings, electric guitar plucks and a dark brooding synth layer up into something that sits comfortably in that dark pop and trip hop space. The beat has a slow, hypnotic groove that gives Lois’s vocals plenty of room to breathe, and she makes the most of it, she is a talented artist, and both of them deserve your full attention.

The lyrics are one of the strongest point in this record, because they are rich, well written, and meaningful. The ending is where things get interesting, a harder beat crashes in right at the close, adding a jolt of tension and energy that feels completely deliberate.
