Klas Jonsson – “Versions”

Klas Jonsson is a Swedish indie-folk musician who’s been quietly building a small but devoted following since his 2024 streaming debut and his new EP, Versions, is a remix collection pulling from four of his previously released tracks, and it works as a good entry point for anyone who hasn’t heard him yet.

The most striking thing about Klas is how different the tracks are from each other. You’d expect a remix EP to feel cohesive, maybe even a little samey, but this one moves around a lot. One minute you’re in something gentle and melancholy, and then the mood shifts completely. That’s apparently very much on purpose, and honestly it works. It keeps you paying attention.

He plays accordion, which isn’t exactly a common choice for indie-folk, and it gives his music a character that’s hard to pin down. It’s not quirky for the sake of being quirky either. A blog called American Pancake described his track “I’ll Be Alright” as moving “like a lovely slow dance,” and that’s actually a pretty fair description of the general vibe here. There’s something unhurried about the whole thing.

If you want to keep up with whatever Klas puts out next, find him on Facebook, SoundCloud, or YouTube. Worth following.
