June Holland – “Out of the Darkness Into the Light”
June Holland has put together a genuinely moving project with “Out of the Darkness Into the Light”. The four tracks flow together with real honesty and warmth, blending alt-pop, soul, blues, and Americana seamlessly. The cover artwork, designed by June herself, features a glowing sun and crescent moon resting over dark clouds in warm retro typography. It visually captures the whole journey from difficult times into hope.
The EP opens with “Mouldy Orange”, running five minutes and four seconds, and it is easily my favorite on the record. The subtle darker textures, paired with cinematic string arrangements from Egan Stonier, create a quiet space that lands directly in your heart. It reflects on the personal experience of a late ADHD diagnosis and the quiet process of healing.
Next comes “Brother”, running three minutes and thirty-six seconds. Channeling classic Motown and Amy Winehouse influences, it brings deep emotion via rich brass arrangements by Alvin Davis, written as a message of hope while her brother was in a coma. That shifts into “Sunflower”, at two minutes and fifty-five seconds, which brings uplifting retro-soul energy inspired by Paolo Nutini to celebrate the patience and support that helps guide someone out of depression and anxiety. Finally, “Sing”, at three minutes and thirty-four seconds, finishes the set on a joyful note as an anthem about embracing one’s true artistic purpose. With her live band, Kersh on drums, Fabs on bass, and Ronan on guitar, every instrument lands with real authenticity and organic style.
I absolutely love this record from start to finish. June Holland is such a gifted songwriter and self-made creator, having self-produced every arrangement and crafted these songs over a five-year period. I strongly encourage everyone to check out her previous releases on streaming platforms or Bandcamp to hear how her sound has grown over time. Make sure to follow June Holland across all her social channels and streaming pages so you stay completely updated on all her new releases in the rest of this year, because she is a wonderfully talented artist who truly deserves your support and attention as she continues sharing her incredible journey with us all.
