Jackal Twins – “Cuzco”

Let me just say, Jackal Twins’ debut LP “Cuzco” is the kind of record that punches you in the gut and then hands you a bouquet of broken glass. Holy heck, this thing is a wild ride. From the first track to the last, it’s 12 slices of chaotic beauty that somehow balance mathcore’s brain-melting riffs with moments of weirdly poetic tenderness. Imagine getting lost in a fever dream where Converge crashes a jazz-funk party, and everyone leaves bruised but weirdly emotional; that’s “Cuzco”.

Ben and Mike’s vocal chemistry is straight-up fire. One minute, you’re getting guttural growls that sound like a demonic lullaby, the next, raspy screams that claw at your eardrums. It’s safe to say it’s one of my favorite releases I’ve heard this year so far, and my favorite track is “Spoken to Time”. The lyrics are rich and unique, and tracks like “Charcoal Lions” hit like a freight train, but honestly, this album demands to be played front-to-back. It’s not just a collection of songs; it’s a mood, a vibe, a whole messy universe.

If you’re into music that doesn’t play nice- noise rock, punk, jazz chaos, all of it; “Cuzco” is your new obsession. Do yourself a favor; crank this album, let it wreck you, then go follow Jackal Twins everywhere. Trust me, you’ll wanna see where they go next.
