Fons & the Chargers – “The Last Little Christmas Tree”

Fons & the Chargers is the music project of Fons Slieker, a surgeon-in-training based in Utrecht who makes music in his spare time. His new single, “The Last Little Christmas Tree”, is a personal one, written for his newborn son, Guus. It tells the story of a not-so-perfect Christmas tree that still gets to shine when given love and care. That message feels honest, and it’s the kind of thing that sticks with you all time, not just on holidays.

The song takes inspiration from classic Crooner-style Christmas music, the kind you’d hear from Nat King Cole or Bing Crosby, and you can tell that’s the music Fons grew up with, but this isn’t some retro imitation, and it sounds like something he made because he genuinely enjoys it. The chorus is light and easy to sing along with, and the whole thing feels simple in the best way.

It was recorded on the island of Texel, which has family meaning for him, and that adds to the feeling behind it. Nothing about this song feels forced or overdone. It’s just honest and warm. Follow Fons & the Chargers on social media to keep up with more heartfelt music in the new year.
