Finlay – “I just wanted you to know”

Finlay’s debut release, “I just wanted you to know”, hits with that kind of low-key emotional pull you only get when someone’s not trying too hard to impress. It’s nostalgic in a way that feels personal but still leaves space for your own memories to slip in. You hear the fingerprints of the early 2000s but it never feels like a throwback. It’s more like the kind of track you find on a burned CD in the back of your car and realize it still holds up.

The companion track “Saint-Jean-d’Angély” rounds things out with a looser, late-night feel. Both songs sound like they’ve been dug out of some hard drive, dusted off, and brought to life with just enough polish to make you care, there’s charm in that kind of accidental discovery.

The artwork’s grainy, saturated blue sky hits the same feeling as the tracks, half-remembered moments and warm static, like old film you didn’t expect to turn out. If you’re into this sort of sound, keep an eye on Finlay. Follow online and stay looped in for what’s coming the rest of 2025.
