Exzenya – “Till I’m Drunk & Confused”
Hey again! Hope you’re winding down your weekend in a chill way. Exzenya just released “Till I’m Drunk & Confused”, and I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. It’s a folk-pop song that sounds upbeat on the surface, but the story underneath is pretty heavy. She’s singing about losing a relationship because of drinking, and then using that same drinking to try and forget about it. The whole thing is built on ukulele and acoustic guitar, so it has this easygoing sound even while she’s talking about real pain.
I like how she doesn’t make it overly sad or dramatic, the song keeps moving and stays catchy, but lines like “You’re the one thing I had to lose to learn the truth about me” show she’s being straight-up about her mistakes. She’s not hiding behind anything or trying to make excuses, just admitting how things went down.
The sound reminds me of Noah Kahan or Dean Lewis, where you get something you can listen to on repeat but still has actual depth. Exzenya recorded this without any pitch correction or digital fixes, so you’re hearing her real voice the whole time, which I think adds to how genuine it comes across.
