Eternal Mourning – “Drums Are Beating My Steps”
Eternal Mourning is a Montreal indie folk project led by songwriter, vocalist, and producer Philippe Mourani. The single “Drums Are Beating My Steps” was released just last week. Philippe Mourani started the track as a voice memo late at night during a severe bout of insomnia. After several creative iterations and professional recording sessions, the song reached its final form. From the moment I listened to it, I was excited to share it with you. Also, you need to check out their previous album “What I Saw Is History”.
The words dive straight into the exhausting reality of sleepless nights and it’s one of the best-written songs that landed on my radar this week. It’s about sweat, stress, and boxing the bedsheets while waiting for morning light. It portrays that tense space where wakefulness and exhaustion collide. The rhythm moves forward like an unwanted march while the body desperately needs rest. It portrays a mind trapped in endless motion without any control over its direction.
You can hear the genuine origin of the track in every second. The vocal performance and arrangement capture that lonely hour when sleep refuses to come. It tells a direct story about wanting to stop the mental wheels from turning when nothing works.
