Danielle Dennis – “Where To Begin”

Just listened to the new Danielle Dennis track “Where To Begin” and damn, it got me right in the feels. This New Orleans-based singer-songwriter doesn’t hold back, delivering raw emotion right from her French Quarter home to your headphones.

The song goes deep into her complex PTSD experience, and you can hear the struggle in her voice – that struggle between being stuck in the past and trying to move forward. There is something so brave about the way she turns her healing journey into music like this. What makes this track unique is the way Danielle combines her folk rock roots with these little trip-hop touches. Her voice has this haunting quality that brings to mind Stevie Nicks a little bit, but with a more edgy, contemporary feel. The production (with Tom Moth from Florence + The Machine) builds this perfect atmospheric backdrop that allows her lyrics to really sink in.

This is the third single off Danielle‘s upcoming debut EP and to be honest, I am totally hooked. There is something so refreshing about music that doesn’t try to polish over the messy parts of being human. When she sings about hitting rock bottom and finding a way back up, you just know she’s lived every word.

If you are into emotionally honest music that doesn’t avoid the tougher stuff, then be sure to check out “Where To Begin”. And don’t forget to follow Danielle Dennis on social media, this is one artist whose journey you will want to keep up with.
