Cowboy Clean – “Grendel”
Cowboy Clean is the new solo project from NYC musician Matt Leibowitz, who’s been part of bands like Prison and The Midnight Hollow. His debut single “Grendel” kicks off the rollout for his first EP, Rubber Knife, and it makes a strong first impression.
To be honest with your guys, it’s one of the best releases I’ve heard this week so far. It looks at that line between drive and burnout, and how the same energy that pushes you forward can start working against you if you’re not paying attention and there’s no posturing here, it feels like someone working things out honestly without trying to impress anyone. That kind of self-awareness is rare, especially in a debut.
“Grendel” gives you a clear picture of what Cowboy Clean is aiming for with this project. If you’re into artists who think about what they’re putting out and don’t overcomplicate it, this one’s worth keeping up with. Follow Cowboy Clean on Instagram and Spotify to stay in the loop as the rest of the songs roll out this year.
