Consequential – “I’m Alive”

The new I’m Alive EP by Consequential is a refreshing listen that locks you into a great groove right away. Operating out of Bury St. Edmunds, England, this producer brings an honest approach to liquid drum and bass, completely skipping the predictable formulas that crowd electronic music today.

The project took over a year of careful work, with the tracks constantly being stripped back, tweaked, and reconstructed. You can hear that dedication across the four tracks, “Body Language”, “Enjoy the Moment”, “I’m Alive”, and “Touch Down”. Blending smooth 90’s RNB vibes and deep trip hop elements makes the whole project accessible without losing its edge. It has a comforting, nostalgic warmth that reminds me of the golden era of early liquid funk, yet it still feels completely current. A lot of care went into making something with actual substance.

The overall rhythm makes this the perfect soundtrack for a laid back evening. In my personal opinion, “Enjoy the Moment” is the standout track because the pacing is absolutely brilliant and puts you in a great headspace. You should definitely check out the artist’s previous releases if you want to hear how this signature style has developed over time. Make sure you follow Consequential to stay updated about new releases in the rest of this year.
