Emerald Park – “Lovers In Reverse”

Tobias Borelius has been quietly building something interesting under the Emerald Park name, and his new single “Lovers In Reverse” is probably the clearest picture yet of where that project is headed. And let me tell you this, when you are done with “Lovers In Reverse”, check out “Dead Ends’ and “For Tomorrow”.

From the clean production to the stunning vocals, everything is perfect. The song originally existed as a Swedish track, the English version keeps the same emotional core of the track, a snapshot of Malmö in early summer, a love story that you can’t quite pin down.

Pace-wise, this one moves slower than his previous single “A Song To C”, you can stream it here. The result is something that feels pretty cinematic, wide and drifting in a way that you don’t always get with indie pop.  “Lovers In Reverse” follows a similar emotional thread to “A Song To C”, but gives it more space to settle. If you’ve heard Boy & Bear or The Paper Kites, you’ll have a rough idea of the territory, unhurried, guitar-forward, more interested in atmosphere than hooks.

The full album is due in August, and if this single is any indication, it’s going to be worth paying attention to, and follow Emerald Park on social media to keep up with everything leading up to that release.
