Caratacus – “Church”
Church by Caratacus is one of those albums that’s easier to experience than to describe. It’s an instrumental electronic record that follows a cat named Church as he wanders around a space vessel, unbothered by whatever crisis is unfolding around him. No lyrics, no spoken word narration, just the music doing all the work, you just need to press play and let the magic do its job.
From the moment I discovered this release I was excited to share it with you. Reactor Chamber (I Lurk For You) is a highlight, a track that somehow sounds like an old monster movie score while still managing to feel genuinely emotional underneath all that texture. Hours Wasted Lovingly is the other standout, capturing something so specific and familiar that naming it feels almost beside the point.
This is a rare album that commits fully to an idea without losing the plot. Caratacus set out to tell a story entirely in sound and pulled it off. If this is your first exposure to the project, go back and explore the earlier releases too. Follow Caratacus wherever you stream music. Have you ever heard an album concept this specific and thought it couldn’t possibly work, only to be completely wrong?
