ARMOURS – “Body”

The title track “Body” immediately hits you with incredible energy. Running at three minutes and thirty-eight seconds, it easily stands out as my personal favorite track on this record. The Swedish trio ARMOURS created this five-song debut in an apartment in Stockholm and a basement studio in Enköping. The group consists of long-time friends Håkan Ängquist, Thomas Isberg, and Bengt Rahm, who together bring deep passion to this project.

The record blends classic eighties EBM, post-punk, and electronic body music elements with vintage analog gear, drum machines, industrial samples, and rich baritone vocals. Mastered by Hans Olsson at Svenska Grammofonstudion, the sound quality is crisp and full of life. Across these songs, the lyrics dive into moving on, sitting vigil by a parent, power dynamics on local and global levels, and finding a brief escape from the world.

After the opening title track, “Confront” comes in at four minutes and twenty-five seconds, driving the momentum forward before moving into “Push” at four minutes and twenty-nine seconds. The fourth song, “Power”, expands the landscape across nearly five minutes, clocking in at four minutes and fifty-seven seconds. To wrap things up, the final track “Allegiance” runs for two minutes and fifty-three seconds. It serves as a fantastic cover of the nineties Swedish indie band Blithe, giving a lovely nod to classic indiepop.

The craft and heart put into these five songs show how skilled these musicians are when they build rich electronic soundscapes together. I highly recommend that you take time to check out the artist’s previous releases to hear more of their impressive work.
