Jason Mckee, operating under the name Reetoxa, brings a remarkably candid and deeply felt energy to “Double A Side 2 (Akaroa / Erica And The Stars)”, the four-track release pairs two original pieces with their instrumental karaoke versions, creating a focused presentation of his distinct artistic vision.

The EP opens with “Akaroa”, a four-minute track that serves as my personal favorite and trust me, you will love it as much as I did. Born from a vivid dream during a painful period in prison and eventually finished years later on a New Zealand coast, the song carries a genuine sense of emotional resolution. “Erica And The Stars” emerged from an intense mental health crisis where writing became a literal lifeline. Featuring lush backing from the Budapest Orchestra alongside backing vocals by Jessica Mcpherson-Riley, the track captures the exact soundscapes Jason envisioned in his mind during that dark moment and with additional support from producer Simon Moro, guitarist James Ryan, bassist Kit Riley, drummer Peter Martin, and pianist Terry Hart, the full arrangement feels grounded, powerful, and deeply human.

The accompanying visual artwork sets the mood perfectly and depicting a solitary, long-haired figure in a white dress standing beneath a vast, dark night sky filled with glowing stars and a full moon, the cover artwork mirrors the cosmic, reflective themes embedded in both compositions.
