Alex Comaish – “The Cliches Are Adept”
I first got into Alex Comaish when I heard he started writing songs at thirteen after seeing Frank Turner live. He is a singer-songwriter from Gloucestershire who moved to London, mixing folk and indie rock with great pop melodies.
Alex’s single “The Cliches Are Adept” has a music video out now, and it captures that warm afternoon summer festival feeling perfectly. This track has been a staple of his live set list for a long time. It was always his opener, the one his friends shouted out with him at gigs. You can hear why. It has swaying drums, melodic guitars, and a big chorus. He pokes fun at himself while writing about love, making the whole thing incredibly easy to enjoy.
Alex spent a long time trying to figure out how to record this one. His drummer, Kyle, changed up the drum part and gave him the push he needed to get it right. Interestingly, it is the only track on his upcoming EP without a mandolin, which is usually his favorite instrument to use. It sounds great, and it is a nice gift for the early fans who wanted it on the record before he moves on to newer music.
