Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps – “Roomful of Strangers”

Tom Tikka has been around long enough that you’d think people would stop sleeping on him. The Finnish singer-songwriter, who made a name for himself with Carmen Gray back in the 2000s, is now four albums deep into his solo run as Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps, and Roomful of Strangers is his most collaborative effort yet.

The album was produced by Janne Saksa, and Tikka brought back several of his former Carmen Gray bandmates, Lappe, Pete, and Nicklas Nyman, along with drummer Rale Tiiainen. That reunion element comes across in the music. Nicklas takes lead vocals on “Red-Head Doll” and “Wrecking Ball”, and those tracks are worth your time if you want to hear why this group clicked so well together the first time around. Tikka handles lead vocals on everything else, which is most of the album.

The lead single, “The Day I Found You”, has already picked up some critical attention, and rightly so. Tikka has always had a knack for writing songs that stick without trying too hard, and that quality is all over this record. His solo work has always pulled from rock, pop, blues, and country in a way that feels natural rather than calculated, and Roomful of Strangers keeps that going.

Worth noting that his next album, Off to Eden, is reportedly close to finished. So if this one gets you hooked, you won’t be waiting long. Give him a follow on Instagram, YouTube, and X to keep up with what’s coming next.
