The Kind Hills – “All Your Promises”
It’s safe to say that The Kind Hills is my new favorite band of the week. There’s a quiet confidence to “All Your Promises” that makes it easy to underestimate on first listen. It’s not the kind of song that grabs you by the collar. It eases in, sits beside you, and by the time it’s over, you realize it’s been doing its job the whole time, without asking for any credit.
The song is about walking away from something that wasn’t working and facing whatever comes next without a map and that’s a situation most people know too well, and The Kind Hills handle it with a lightness that never tips into denial. The band sticks to the dreamy, laid-back indie pop they’ve built their name on. Jangle-pop guitars, soft and warm production, the kind of sound that brings to mind a late afternoon drive when the traffic finally clears. The whole thing is unpretentious and lived-in, which suits the subject matter perfectly.
This is the kind of song I’d reach for when I needed a reminder that moving forward is allowed. Not groundbreaking, but quietly powerful in a way I genuinely appreciate. If you haven’t heard their earlier albums Clusterluck or Feeling Blue With You, go back and start there. And make sure you’re following The Kind Hills, because Little Epiphanies drops in May and this single suggests it’ll be worth your time.
