Exzenya – “International Power”

Exzenya is one of the best and most talented artists I’ve covered over the past two years, and her single “International Power” made a lasting impression on me. I like that it is presented as a rap-forward crossover record with melody in the mix, because that gives it broad appeal without taking away its backbone. The a cappella opening sounds like a smart choice. It gives the song a sense of presence right from the start.

The part that stayed with me most is the message behind it. “International Power” comes across as confident in a grounded way. It is built around power that is earned, disciplined, and defined on your own terms, and I think that makes the idea more interesting than the usual loud approach.
