Paper Mountains – “Come Home Darling”

Paper Mountains is the solo project from Toby Lloyd, and “Come Home Darling” is his first release under that name. You might know Lloyd from behind the scenes, since he’s worked with a bunch of big New Zealand artists and on some major films. But this is the first time he’s stepped out and sung on one of his own tracks.

The song has a warm, upbeat sound to it. There’s acoustic guitar, a solid rhythm, and the horns and harmonies add a lot without overcomplicating it. It’s got this feeling of someone missing their partner and wanting them back, but in a way that’s hopeful rather than heavy. You can tell it comes from a real place. Paper Mountains’ songs started coming naturally after falling in love. This one sounds like that, it doesn’t feel forced or overly polished, it just feels honest.
