Kiki Kramer – “prom king”
Kiki Kramer is quickly making a name for herself in the New York City alt-pop scene, and her latest single “prom king” shows exactly why people are paying attention. It is a slow, haunting ballad that feels completely different from a standard pop track. The song looks at an older guy who used to be the young, beautiful playboy but simply refuses to grow up. He is still out every night at clubs trying to seduce much younger women, stuck chasing a version of himself that does not exist anymore.
Kramer co-produced the track with Dov Igel, and engineering was handled by Matt Anthony, and they built a dark, moody environment that perfectly matches her vivid vocals. The whole thing feels incredibly heavy and honest, capturing the empty feeling behind late-night hooks and fading charm. It’s the best track I’ve heard today so far.
It makes sense that industry veteran Jordan Schur signed her to Suretone Records after hearing her music, and this release shows her strengths as a songwriter who handles the messy sides of modern dating.
