Piatt Pund – “Smoking In The Rain”
Piatt Pund’s new single “Smoking In The Rain” is finally out after being tested in the NYC indie scene, and it’s a solid addition to his archive. The track starts off with this spacey, slightly haunting guitar that gives it a reflective feel, and there’s a sense of regret running underneath, but it never feels too heavy. The bass adds just enough energy to keep it moving and give it that rock edge.
It strikes a good balance between laid-back and driven. You can tell Piatt’s lived with this one for a while. It sounds like something that came together naturally, not forced. Even though he plays most of the parts himself, it still has that live-band tightness.
Originally from San Diego and now based in NYC, Piatt already has one album and a few EPs out. His first project got a San Diego Music Award nomination, and he’s played everywhere from the House of Blues to Rockwood Music Hall. He wrapped up a tour this past summer and has a full-length album coming in January 2026. If you’re into indie rock with some bite and a bit of reflection, this is worth a listen. Make sure to follow Piatt Pund on social media to catch new music coming later in 2025.
