Kallai – “We Are Forever”
Kallai, a four-piece band from Portland, just released their debut album We Are Forever on October 17 and it’s one of those records that really sticks with you. The band blends shoegaze, dream pop, and a bit of post-punk in a way that feels natural. It sounds like a group of people making music they believe in, and that comes through in how the songs are put together.
The album was written during a period of political instability and personal stress. There’s a mix of heaviness and moments of relief, and the balance makes it easier to connect with. The sound is full of guitar swells, soft harmonies, and some well-placed piano and electronic elements that give the songs more depth without crowding anything.
Cate Hukle, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, wrote these songs while dealing with what it means to live in a world that often tries to silence voices like hers. That perspective adds a lot to the album and makes the message feel grounded. It doesn’t come off as performative. It feels lived-in and honest. If you’re curious, give We Are Forever a listen and follow Kallai on social media to stay in the loop for the rest of 2025.
