Blackwater Lightship – “Last Night I Saw The Leaves Fall”

I’ve been listening to “Last Night I Saw The Leaves Fall“, the debut EP from Blackwater Lightship, and honestly, it’s really solid. It’s five tracks from a band that clearly cares about what they’re doing, you can hear the effort in the details, from the layered guitar work to the percussion and backing vocals, everything is impressive for us.
The sound moves around quite a bit. Some moments are mellow and acoustic, and others go all in with a raw, post-punk edge. It doesn’t feel random though. It sounds like a band that knows what they’re about and isn’t afraid to push into different directions. You can tell they’ve been working on this for a while, dialing in what they wanted to hear until it finally clicked. I also liked that the lyrics aren’t trying too hard. They come across as honest, like something pulled straight from real conversations or memories. That makes the songs hit a little differently. If I have to pick just one favorite track, that would be “City Lights”.
It’s cool to see a band from Sheffield putting out something this tight and personal. If you haven’t heard their earlier stuff yet, it’s worth checking out too. You can hear how their sound has grown. Definitely keep an eye on them and give them a follow to stay in the loop with new music. They’re onto something good.
