Guri Yeller – “Black Shoes & Sister Misery”

Guri Yeller’s “Black Shoes & Sister Misery” is a gritty, fuzz-drenched leap into the shoegaze world they’d only previously flirted with. It’s noisy in all the right ways, layered, immersive, and confidently anchored in the genre without feeling derivative. If you’ve been following their earlier work like “Seeing Double”, this new release feels like a band finally grabbing the wheel and taking a sharp, satisfying left turn.

Both tracks throb with atmosphere, but there’s clarity under the haze that keeps you locked in. The shoegaze influences are easy to spot, but Guri Yeller doesn’t just mimic, they twist those textures into something personal and can stick in your head for days. And the vocals? Sharp and powerful, cutting through the reverb just when you need it most. Also, the artwork deserves a nod, it’s just a pair of black shoes dangling out a sash window, I just love it.

If this is where Guri Yeller is heading, it’s worth sticking around. Follow them on social media to keep up with upcoming shows in the North of England and whatever else they throw at us in the rest of 2025.
